The Battle of Hastings, 1066
Duke William of Normandy (France) had a claim to the throne of what is now called England and Wales as did the sitting king - King Harold. Duke William took his claim to the Pope and received blessing for his attempt to take the throne by force. King Harold, therefore, knew he was coming and amassed an army on the East coast to meet him.
However, the Viking Danish ruler Harald saw an opportunity and invaded from the North. King Harold marched north to fight him and won. But his forces were now fewer and tired. While he was fighting Harald the Viking Duke William of Normandy invaded.
They met in several battles, but the most decisive one is The Battle of Hastings where Duke William was the victor and became King William. I could not find a list of the English and Welsh participating, but there are several lists of the Normans who accompanied Duke William.
